I sat in front of my computer last night and watched it all go down.. And I literally watched all hell break loose on my social media feeds. The spew of gloating, the spew of hate and whining about loss. Neither side was becoming. And quite frankly, I was embarrassed for both sides. Since when have we come so far away from the beauty of politics and our political system to this hate, negativity, and blood baths that have become elections..? As all of this was swirling around in my head, I decided to shut off, get in bed, and start a new book. I picked up this book, I Declare: 31 Promises to Speak Over Your Life. And there it was… on the very first page. Isn’t it funny how these things have a way of finding you when you’re at a loss for words…?
“Our words have creative power. Whenever we speak something, either good or bad, we give life to what we are saying… We don’t realize that they are prophesying their futures. The Scripture says, ‘We will eat the fruit of our words.’ That means we will get exactly what we’ve been saying.”
So although I may be disappointed in the results of the Presidential race, I did what I could. I exercised my right as an American and cast my vote. What good does it do going around wallowing in negativity, the problems of this country, and how bad it’s going to get…? If the word tells me I will eat the fruit of my words, I’m best to speak positively. Nobody wants to eat bitter fruit. I’m better off to focus on my blessings and the successes that have come out of this election.
First of all, we should be humbled by the fact that we are given freedom of speech when it comes to politics. We can speak freely on social media, in our communities, and even to our government about political decisions. So many countries out there don’t enjoy that right. We are fortunate that we can express how we feel about the election results without fear of our lives from the government. We’ve come a long ways to shape, form, and fight for the freedoms we enjoy, yet we take what we’ve got for granted, daily. Take a moment to silence your bitterness, your words, and meditate on the fact that many people have died throughout the years so that you may be able to speak freely.
Secondly, celebrate the successes locally. Across the nation, we vote on a whole list of things. Out of everything, I am sure you can find at least one success to celebrate. For me, there are two. First of all, in my home state of California Proposition 37 was voted down. I must admit, I am completely shocked. I spent the last few days leading up to the election completely defeated over discussing this proposition. There was so much hype, hysteria, fear, and misinformation floating around regarding Prop 37. And quite frankly, it seemed to bring out the absolute worst in people. So I did my part and cast my NO vote and left it alone. I woke up this morning with my faith in California restored. I am so, so, so proud and excited that the people in California chose to support agriculture, not give into the hysteria and fear, did research and cast their vote on a poorly written Proposition. The second success is in my new home state of North Dakota. The Humane Society of the United States had been pouring money into Measure 5 here in North Dakota. As well as many of my social media turned personal friends here in North Dakota reached out to educate people on the real story behind these measures. I am so excited that my new home state of North Dakota can rally together to let HSUS know that they don’t enjoy being told how to vote. And that when it counts, they are willing to come together, educate themselves on issues and vote accordingly.
And to those of you out there who want to take shelter because it feels like the world has come to an end and that our country couldn’t get any worse… Put your faith in Him. Hebrews 13:5-6 tells us, “For He Himself has said, ‘I will never leave you nor forsake you.’ So we may boldly say: The Lord is my helper; I will not fear. What can man do to me?” And guess what, God is faithful to His word. He will not let us down and guess what, he is in complete control. If we keep our trust in Him, He will always make a way even though it looks impossible. It may not happen on your own timeline or in due season BUT it will happen. God has never once failed before, and guess what He isn’t about to start.
So today I will put my faith and trust in Him to provide for me the life that he has planned out. The results of this election may bring forth a few extra hurdles or stumbling blocks along the way, but He will be there with me the whole way through. My farmer and I will work hard together, we will count our blessings, we will put our faith and trust in God, and we will continue to share our love with the rest of you regardless of who is residing in the White House.

Well said Jenny, in politics we win some-lose some, but keep pressing on. Ag seems to have done fairly well in this election on some things, and as you say so well. there is better places to put our faith/confidence than our national leaders. And yet, there is a lot of heartache among many, your words capture it all well.
