Two weeks ago, my husband and I traveled to California for my family’s annual Thanksgiving at my parent’s house. Thanksgiving is one of my favorite Holidays. If you remember back two years ago, I shared a Dewey Family Thanksgiving. My dad cooks and goes, literally, all out. He gets up early and cooks all day long. Everything is from scratch.. I’ve never known anything besides homemade gravy. I have vivid memories of spending all morning and early afternoon in the kitchen with my dad.. Stirring the gravy, chopping vegetables. And this year was no different… except my husband was the official stuffing taste tester, not me. 😉
Every year Dad tries to do something “different” and non-traditional. Some years it’s Cioppino, some years it is some kind of Wild Game, this year it was Jambalaya.. And oh boy was it heavenly!
The stuffing is probably my favorite part. Seriously, nothing beats my Dad’s stuffing. Even some of family members look forward to Thanksgiving just for the stuffing.
Some people eat turkey, some people eat beef… We are butchers, we eat three meats, always. What else would you expect?
This year we got outside early enough to take some family photos. Since moving, I only get to see my family a few times a year. I, now, cherish photos more than anything. These are the captured memories of our times together. Even the dogs got in on the fun.
So there it is. Another Thanksgiving in California is in the books! We had a wonderful time visiting, seeing family and friends, and doing some sight seeing. I have SO many photos to share with you all! Stay tuned!
How was everyone’s Thanksgiving? Getting excited for Christmas?
The food looked amazing! Yum! And your dress… adorable. Are you traveling for Christmas this year as well? Or will any of your Cali family be able to travel to you?

Thank you!! I got the dress from Modcloth online! I LOVE that place! We aren’t traveling for Christmas. We decided when we first got together that rather than trying to pick/choose which Holidays to spend with which families that we would always spend Thanksgiving with my family and Christmas with his family. It’s tough being away from my family for Christmas, but I have GREAT in laws so that helps! My parents own a butcher shop and retail store so getting away at Christmas time is TOUGH because it’s probably the biggest Holiday of the year for them as far as hams, prime ribs, and other gifts go. I am hoping one of these years maybe my family will be able to fly out and join in the Rohrich family Christmas 🙂
First-time commenter – looks like you had a great Thanksgiving! That spread looked wonderful!! Enjoy your first Christmas as newlyweds 🙂
