Baby Shower Gift for Mom

I have always been a very intentional gift giver. I love curating gifts for people outside of any list or registry and finding the perfect gift for any recipient. Now that said, there is nothing wrong with having a registry or a list for helping people gift items – hey, we all want to receive things we will use and enjoy.

Before I had Levi, I never really knew what in the heck to gift a new mom when I attended a baby shower. So I often stuck to the registry and went from there. And like anything, once you experience it, you realize what is actually really helpful when it comes to taking care of a newborn baby and being a postpartum momma. And what I’ve come to realize is that MOST of the time, the majority of baby shower gifts revolve around the baby.

And let’s be honest, if you’ve had a baby, you know that SELF CARE is SO important!! It will often be what gets you through a lot of days… So I got this brilliant idea of gifts for a baby shower that are FOR MOM!! I’ve gifted this several times and every time I get the sweetest comments from new Mommas who have loved every item and used every item!

So I wanted to share – in case you need a kickass gift for the next baby shower you attend.

Robe & Nightgown // I lived in this combination for at least a week after coming home from the hospital. It made it easy to nurse in, was comfortable, and I loved that the robe helped cover me up if we had company over. I also packed this in my hospital bag and wore it both days we stayed in the hospital. They make various styles of this combination, but I really liked the nightgown that had the elastic type top, especially for a larger busted lady.

Dressing Robe // If you don’t feel comfortable gifting the nightgown, another option is just a robe. I LOVE these dressing robes/delivery robes from Pink Blush. I have one that I wear every day when I get out of the shower. They are gorgeous and help that new Momma feel a little bit more pulled together plus she can also wear it in the hospital after birth as well.

Fuzzy Socks with Grippers // This was one of the ONLY items I used from my hospital bag. My feet were freezing during labor. Any sort of warm, fuzzy socks will work – but they have to have some sort of anti-slide grippers on them for the hospital.

Extra Long Phone Charger // Whether a new Momma is using this at the hospital or at home, this is essential. Outlets are never where we want them to be and you’ll be on your phone a lot during late night feedings.

Mommy Spray // Unless you know the birth will be a planned c-section, this is essential to have on hand. I liked both the Dermaplast the hospital gave to me as well as the Earth Momma spray.

Lactation Aids // If you know the Momma is planning on breastfeeding, these are helpful aids to have on hand. I loved having some sort of lactation cookie/bar/bite because it was easy to snack on and it was beneficial for my milk supply in the first couple days. The bars from Milkful are fantastic! Later on, I swore by the Legendairy Milk supplements. They are amazing! The starter pack is a great way to figure out what supplements may work for each Momma.

Large Water Bottle // Speaking of nursing, any nursing Momma needs to be drinking ALL THE WATER. Gifting her a cute, large water bottle (preferably with a straw) is the perfect gift and one she may not buy herself to help her get all those ounces in. I love that this one has times listed on it – helps to keep track during that post-birth/newborn haze.

Nursing Bra or Bralette // You cannot have too many nursing bras on hand, especially if you are prone to leaking. I loved these two styles from Motherhood, especially the lace bralette. I still wear the bralettes even though I am no longer nursing.

Chapstick // Because you can never have too much chapstick to keep your lips moisturized – this is also a great addition for a hospital bag!

Kindle Unlimited or Audible Subscription // Newborns require a lot of time spent sitting whether you are feeding or holding. I love the idea of gifting a new Mom a Kindle or Audible subscription so she can read or listen to books during all that snuggle time.

Homemade Food // Most people will gift a new mom lots of casseroles or dinners, but people often don’t think to give things like breakfast, lunch, or snacks! These are the meals that likely mom may have to make on her own (when Dad isn’t home), so it is helpful to have things on hand whether it be breakfast burritos you can pop in the microwave or chex mix you can grab and snack on easily.
