Well it is July 1 and that means it is time to move onto another crop we grow here on our farm with my Crop of the Month series. Our wheat has been growing and if it can continue to avoid the hail, it is looking pretty awesome! Here’s what it looks like right now:
As we learned last time, it is in the heading and soon reproductive stage! I will be sure and take more photos as it grows to document the different growth stages.
I hope you’ve enjoyed this journey through wheat. I’ve talked about what wheat means to our farm, what stages of growth wheat goes through on our farm, and what wheat is used for once it leaves our farm. I’ve also shared several different wheat recipes from breakfast to side dishes and even dessert!
In order to wrap it all up, I would like to do a giveaway. And I think this giveaway goes nicely with the post I shared last time. You may remember, I shared after wheat ripens, we harvest it. This video is a documentary all about wheat harvest!
The Great American Wheat Harvest tells the story of custom harvesters who travel from the heart of Texas all the way to the Canadian border harvesting the wheat that feeds us and the world. The story is just fantastic, it shares the challenges facing not only the wheat farmers in the area, but also the custom harvesters. And one of my favorite things about the film is that it features my beautiful friend Tracy of Nebraska Wheatie and her family along their journey!
Enter to win below! Giveaway ends Wednesday July 8th!

My favorite thing about wheat is that it can be used for so much. It also makes a great backdrop for pictures! This looks like a great DVD and a good way to educate people about farming.
bet things have changed since working on a custom crew in the early ’60’s!
This is the first year we haven’t planted wheat here on our farm. I love watching wheat turn. And then taking it to the mill to see if we made flour wheat or feed wheat. I would love to see this documentry.
I live to EAT wheat and will enjoy learning more about it and harvesting from the educational video!
My favorite thing about wheat is that I use wheat flour in my home-made bread.
