Thanks to the generosity of so many, we’ve finally gotten to a point where we have to buy Levi some new clothes. With our early fall, it felt like summer ended and winter hit the next day. I sort of had to scramble to figure out what Levi was going to wear for fall. I decided that I wanted to try and put together a capsule wardrobe for him.
If you aren’t familiar with a capsule wardrobe, essentially it is a collection of a few essential items of clothing that don’t go out of style and can then be augmented with seasonal pieces. My goal out of choosing a capsule is simply keeping his closet minimal and not over purchasing a bunch of cute clothes that a. don’t all coordinate and b. he hardly wears any of it.
I wanted everything to be able to mix and match so it makes dressing him on any given day easy – you can literally just grab and go. So here’s what I came up with. I’ll break it down my category and be sure to share links to each item for you below.

SHIRTS
I chose all long sleeve shirts, obviously due to the weather, he has plenty of carry over short sleeve shirts from summer if he needed something cooler. However, I think since the season changed, he has yet to wear short sleeves. I included a mix of jersey/cotton shirts, thermals, and one button down dress shirt.

PANTS
Pants are really tough for us. Levi is extremely long in the torso and short in his legs so typically he wears one size down in pants or slimmer fit pants fit him a little better. I feel like Cat & Jack pants fit him the best, but Carter’s has a couple styles that work great for us too.

SHOES & ACCESSORIES
Since we live in the frozen tundra, I chose a couple of warm winter hats. In winter hats, I look for ones that are lined and also fit Levi’s big head. These two fit the bill and are both lined – not just knit. North Dakota wind cuts right through anything that isn’t lined. I also picked up a North Face hat for him, but I couldn’t find it online.
As far as shoes goes, I have been keeping it super simple. We own three pairs of shoes for Levi right now and he wears shoes every day. I got him a pair of First Kicks from Robeez, which we love but they aren’t winter friendly. The shoes he has been wearing lately every day are sneakers from See Kai Run, which has easily become my favorite shoes for kids. They are spendy, but you can find last season styles, etc. on sale! I also wanted to find a pair of easy to get on, insulated, waterproof winter boots. Stonz came highly recommended by my friends who also live in the frozen tundra, so I am excited to see how they work for us this winter. I love the ease of putting them on and taking them off and I love that you can order liners for added warmth! I also ordered some gloves from Stonz as well – they are amazing!!

OUTERWEAR
Outerwear while your kiddos are still in carseats can be something that you can easily overbuy and then they never end up wearing. Most of Levi’s “snow clothes” if he chooses to go out in the snow or be outside for an extended period of time is hand-me-downs. However, for everyday warmth that he can still wear while in his carseat, I got him a couple fleece zip ups as well as some vests we can put on to layer once he’s unbuckled and out of the carseat. I did pick up one winter coat, we will see how much we end up needing it at this age.
