Visions of My North Dakota Weekend

Visions of My North Dakota Weekend

So in case you haven’t been following along… I was refreshed on all the reasons why I have fallen in love with North Dakota and well, my farmer by making a whirlwind trip this past weekend… And well, in case you were wondering why I love it there so much.. Let me show you!

I spent most of my two days there riding around in the pickup and other farm vehicles with my farmer checking crops! First on the list was soybeans… These soybeans were planted during the early to middle part of May and have just begun to emerge! Welcome to the world little soybeans!

There’s my farmer… In the field. Checking it all out.. His passion for agriculture and especially farming is so apparent when he’s in his element.

And if some of you have been following along.. You will know that my farmer planted some Bt Sweet Corn…  I am so excited, it is just starting to emerge! We still have a long ways to go but it’s good to know it’s got a great start!

Next up, we had to check up on some wheat. Check out this sight. Right here. Why wouldn’t you want to live right here… In the middle of nowhere!?

It was rather windy but to watch the wheat blow in the wind and behold those beautiful clouds. It takes your breath away. Big blue sky and wide open spaces of North Dakota has stole my California heart. Along with a certain Sunflower farmer…

Let me tell you. This was perfection. And there isn’t any other place in the world I would have rather been than right there next to him.

Last but not least, we had to check up on some corn that was just planted and it too is already starting to emerge.

We also had to check up on some fields that will be receiving sunflowers as soon as the water from the recent storms has dried up. We were surprised at how much water was sitting in the fields which means that sunflower planting is going to have to wait until some sunshine comes out!

Watching them prepare the fields, watching them spread fertilizer, watching them plant, checking the crops with my farmer, constantly watching the weather… It’s all been a learning process for me. And I love it. I am always asking questions because frankly, it’s absolutely fascinating to me! And the fact that my farmer gets to share his passion with me makes me love it even more. Then in turn, I get to capture that passion and share it with y’all. So, really, we are in this ride together. As I learn, I will share. And I hope you will read.

This is only the beginning of a long journey of learning, farming, and of course, love. Between me, the girl from California, and my farmer. Stay tuned, it’s bound to be an exciting and entertaining journey!

Karen- I take that as an extreme compliment! Being able to photograph the area in such a light that people who have lived there all their lives can appreciate it… that speaks to me! 🙂 I cannot wait to get out there and explore even more the state has to offer. I never thought I’d leave California, but my heart has found a new home!
