Life Is Full of Surprises.. And My Birthday

If somebody would have told me last year that I’d be falling in love with a farmer and moving to North Dakota, I would have told them they were crazy.

If somebody told me that I would celebrating my 25th birthday in North Dakota with that farmer instead of some epic trip to somewhere like Vegas, I would have laughed in their face.

But guess what. Today, May 1st, marked my 25th birthday. And I am currently in North Dakota and very much in love with my farmer… Life is full of surprises.

Needless to say, I didn’t don my cutest party dress and a fancy pair of glittery heels, curl my hair, or drink and party the night away in Vegas. Instead, my day was spent sleeping in, doing my nails, having lunch with my farmer, reading, and watching a few episodes of my current obsession The Tudors. And of course, most of it was spent on the phone talking to loved ones back in California.

My evening topped the day off with a visit from my new gal pal and her adorable little boy, dinner with Mark’s family, and finally spending some time relaxing with my farmer. He even got off work early to spend my birthday with me, which to all you farmers, you know that is a big deal.

So although ringing in my quarter of a century birthday wasn’t epic by any means, I wouldn’t have had it any other way. I’d take any day with my farmer and his family over getting gussied up to go out and party. People always tell you, it’s the little things in life that matter. And indeed, they do.

So instead of my glitter heels (which Sunflowerfarmer told me I could wear by the way), I threw on some flats to head out to the farm. And instead of partying the night away, here I am on the couch, right next to my farmer. Happy, content, and bursting with love for the people in my life. This is how birthdays should be.

All the glitz, glamour, and glitter have got nothing on the special moments I experienced today from the people who mean the most to me. From the box I received from California with Happy Birthday written all over it to the card I received from Mark’s grandparents. Those are the things in life that matter. Those are the things in life that remind me just how blessed I really am. Those are the things in life that tell me I’m right where I need to be.
